What inspires you in this world?  Why do you dance?

What inspires me in the world is the connections that I have to my loved ones. Being able to be a witness to their growth and seeing how I can take their lessons and apply them to my life. Nature also inspires me, seeing how Mother Nature always makes room for life to grow is beautiful and just taking a walk outside, the things that really matter in life become more and more clear.

I dance because I am a story teller. I grew up with a mother who was always reading and made it important for us to read too. With that, I learned that the most important thing in our lives is the stories that we tell ourselves and the world. I dance so that I can share my story and help bring others stories to life. I believe that we live by the stories that we tell ourselves, and if we want to change then we first have to change the narrative around whatever it is we are dealing with. I dance to keep my ancestors stories alive and to tap into the ancestral memories that live within my body.

What do you love about DDI?

I love the collaboration with Dayton Ballet. Being able to connect and make art with dancers from a different specialty of dance is always a fun time and makes for some great dancing.
