Aaron Frisby (Philadelphia, Pennsylvania) started out dancing in Hip-Hop and Acrobatics at the age of 7. By the age of 12 he was training in Ballet, Jazz and Modern at The POINTE! Dance Studio. In 2010 he was accepted into the Philadelphia Creative and Performing Arts High School (CAPA). Aaron has attended The Ailey School and was fortunate enough to be accepted into the Scholarship program. He spent two years as a scholarship student there and was also apart of the student performance group(ASPG). While there he has learned and performed works choreographed by Alvin Ailey himself. Aaron has also worked with choreographers such as Kirven Boyd, Ray Mercer, Ronald K. Brown and many more. Aaron is now in his second season with Dayton Contemporary Dance Company. This is his second season dancing with Dayton Dance Initiative!

What inspires you? Why do you dance?

I’m inspired by a lot of different things ranging from movies, music, paintings/sculptures and just every day life. Even seeing humans interact with one another can be inspiring to me. History, specifically dance history inspires me as well. Hearing, seeing and learning about the dance giants who came before me ignites a fire inside of me that makes me want to be a better artist/dancer.

What do you love about DDI?

Being a part of DDI has shown me what collaboration is all about and how it can produce beautiful things. Being around other dance artists than I’m used to and seeing their artistic thoughts and ideas is a great joy.

My favorite small business in Dayton:
